Frequently Asked Questions

  • A good living means different things to different people. To us, a good living simple means having enough to live the way you want to live, generated from something you built yourself.

  • The programme is open to all, including international students currently studying in Singapore.

  • The age range reflects our primary demographic focus rather than a hard cutoff. If you’re above the age range but is strongly interested in the programme, we would still like to hear from you.

  • We are open to applicants joining with an already existing startup/project/team.

The application form includes a question asking you to describe what you wish to work on during the 4-week programme. This helps us understand your current status and next steps.

  • Expect to talk about your idea if you have one, or about what draws you to building something if you don't yet. We'll ask questions about what you want to get out of the four weeks and what you think you need to get there.

  • We will be running the 4-week programme several times throughout the year. Exact timings have not been confirmed as we are currently assessing the demand and availability of participants

  • You'll attend the programme in person at Tangent's space, working in a self-directed way on ideas you want to explore, with guidance and support from the Tangent team.

The goal of the programme is for you to explore, build, or further validate your own research, product, or business ideas.

  • Check-ins are informal. Programme staff will be present in the space throughout the four weeks and available to talk through what you're working on and offer guidance.

There are no standard assignments. We’ll ask you to propose a plan at the start and work with you to make sure it's properly scoped, resourced, and consistent with what you want to get out of the programme.

  • You will have subscriptions to Claude Code, Codex, and a range of other models via OpenRouter credits such as Kimi, Qwen and GLM. We're also working towards a local inference cluster that participants will be able to work against.

  • Guides come in for two-hour office hour sessions which you can use however is most useful to you (asking questions, getting feedback, thinking through a problem, etc.)

You won't be matched with a guide. You are encouraged to proactively seek out the ones most relevant to what you're working on. We’ll spend time early in each cohort helping participants figure out how to do it well.

We will also work with you to identify what mentoring support you need and connect you, both from within the current guide pool and beyond it.

  • You can join one of our 4-week programmes during your term break. If you continue into the longer 24-month programme, we will expect you to take a leave of absence from university as it will be a full-time commitment.

  • It is an investment of up to $200k in exchange for an equity stake of up to 15%. We’re still working out the details and timing for the 24-month programme and will share more information later in the year.

  • We cannot sponsor a visa nor provide immigration advice. However, the 4-week programme is unpaid as participants will be receiving a stipend, not a salary. The stipend is meant to support your participation in the programme, which is intended and documented as a learning and training experience rather than employment.

Participants who continue into the 24-month programme may start their own companies, become Tangent employees or Tangent interns. These arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis and in the context of the participant’s specific immigration and/or work authorisation situation.
