My final-year project explored how redesigning a sterile instrument tray could improve workflow and sustainability in ophthalmology procedures. Through 9 months of fieldwork with clinicians, nurses and sterile processing staff, I found that the tray itself influences how instruments are organised and handled during procedures. As the project moves beyond its academic phase, I’m exploring how to protect its intellectual property while refining the design for future implementation and validation within healthcare.
