The tray that shapes behaviour
Sterile procedure trays quietly shape how clinicians organise, search for and handle instruments during procedures, yet they are rarely questioned as part of the workflow. Through 9 months of fieldwork with clinicians and sterile reprocessing staff, I explored how redesigning the procedure tray could support safer and more sustainable ophthalmology procedures. More broadly, the project asks how clinical tools can be designed with the frontline teams who use them, while balancing the wider needs of healthcare systems to better support everyday clinical practice.
